Gotcha

Well, good morning here, everyone. It is Jesse here from BC Fishing General
0:14
Welcome back to the channel. Today we're on a different river system. We're targeting hatchery coho
0:20
There is also some late Chinook. And I think there is Chum
0:24
Right now there's no retention. It's a really poor showing for Chum across
0:28
You've probably heard in BC here. probably a lot of different places, maybe even where you're fishing. But, uh, so any chum will be released, but we are targeting coho
0:36
We're going to use some beads, some small beads. And so that's going to be the approach today
0:39
And, uh, it's cold. That's why I'm wearing a tuk. Ooh. It's chilly
0:43
It's got to be about minus one, minus two degrees right now. That's Celsius. So, uh, yeah, we're going to just toss some beads under the float
0:51
I've got some twitching jigs for, uh, for coho as well. And, uh, let's see how we do
0:56
Thanks for coming along, guys. Alright, we're gonna start with a little bead here
1:01
This is a small, this is a little eight. I think it's eight millimeter and shh, don't tell anyone, but this is a hard bead
1:09
It's not even soft so it's a little blood dot. Let's see what we find
1:15
Look for those cohole. I can see some fish coming up which is good to see
1:22
I think I haven't fished this run in probably three years, two years
1:27
three years, two years. So I don't remember like depth or anything. It looks like it's pretty
1:32
shallow. Oh I saw a coho jump right in front of my float. That's a good sign
1:38
It's a little one's surface right there. That's a good sign. There's chum in here too. I'm
1:44
seeing chum rise. Want something small here? I got something small. What do I got
1:52
Oh, it's a little guy. What do we got? Oh, a little guy. What do we got
1:57
Coho There it goes Oh no, don't go on there There you goes
2:03
Alright, first one Little trout A little cocoany Sorry, a little That was a Coho Jack
2:11
I believe I didn't see a close look enough At it but that was a little coho jack
2:17
Looks like you took a swipe at it Sometimes when you Are fishing a bead because there the gap between the hook and the The bead sometimes you can kind of hook them in a weird spot based on where they bite the hook or the bead
2:36
This buddy who's come to look at me here. Beautiful. Oh, hey bud
2:43
How's it going? You've done well. You made it. You made her
2:49
My eyelids are freezing up so I'm twitching now. Throwing spoons and twitching jigs
2:59
Boat rod. I hope I didn't foul hook this one. May-out. Go. Go
3:21
I think I did. I think I did
3:47
Yeah, throwing the twitching jig now
4:05
Just like I got control this guy. Yeah, it's definitely in the mouth you can tell because it's can control the fish
4:13
You can feel the head shakes, which is nice. which is nice
4:17
What's that? Oh yeah, I said a chum. Yeah. Oh, oh. Hot fish
4:23
Hot fish, hot fish, hot fish. There you go, on the twitching jig
4:28
I'm on the twitching jig. Yeah, it's definitely in the mouth though, which is nice
4:40
Don't want to foul hook these guys in this current because I'm... See you later
4:44
I was like, see you later. I wasn't going anywhere. Yeah. I testing out a rod It called the Chrome Stric Outfitter rod So this is a twitching rod And I told the guy I was like this is too light too small But I have to say it been pretty good
5:01
Like, yeah, this CSO twitching rod has been awesome. Because for me, I thought for these fish, there's no way
5:07
It's more for Coho. But I thought if I catch a huge Chinook or chum
5:12
with this rod, it's going to be a problem. All right, let's get this guy off here
5:18
Oh yeah, nice fish. Alright, my side. Nice fish. I wrapped him
5:36
He's wrapped up. What he's got in the mouth? That's good. There he goes
5:43
Now he pops it off. Nice clean one. one? Buck? Oh, I think we could get smoker candid if we could
5:56
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we're gonna let you go. We're gonna let you go, don't worry. Alright. Gotcha. Gotcha. Gotcha
6:13
I got that. Right in the side of the mouth there. Right over the right there we're right
6:22
There we go. So these guys we have to keep real good, careful
6:30
There it goes. You. That's on that twitching jig here
6:40
we're going for coho but there is some charm in here too that's a nice one nice clean one
6:50
so it's inevitable the thing is to avoid foul hooking just do lighter jigs I've been doing
6:56
softer jigging and there's other ways that can avoid to you like I don't let it go too far

7:37
Hey, I'm back home now, so I just realized before I left the river, I didn't do an outro
7:42
So today this morning, we were out just for a couple hours and we were targeting Hatchery Coho, like I said
7:47
there was a ton of chum in the river. And so, I mean, I could have thrown a bunch of, like, you know, chum jigs, purple and pink chum jigs
7:54
And I'm sure I could have got a lot of those. But the return of chum, as you probably heard, as I mentioned earlier, has been really low
8:00
So I didn't really want to do that. So I was trying to get, throw the beads and really target the coho, throwing some twitching jigs that I, that I like for coho as well
8:09
So we didn't do well in the coho. We got one little, one little jackshun of coho early on the bead
8:14
But, yeah, couldn't get anything else. But we did get that one chum on the..
8:18
Actually, I got a couple chum that I only filmed one on a twitching jig
8:22
which was kind of cool. Yeah, so that was the day. And one other thing I wanted to show you
8:26
So I threw one of my gofish camera... I threw our gofish camera into the river
8:32
I wanted to see some of the chum and how they're moving up. So I'm going to show that footage to you
8:36
I hope you enjoy. Just for some of you that don't know
8:40
a gofish camera is an underwater camera that I've hooked up to a float to point downwards
8:44
So apologies on some of the jibes. Shottery shots here because it's really based on how the current kind of brings out along
8:50
All right in this shot you'll notice that the chum are in the main stem of the river like the deepest part and on the outside and the inside lane you could call it notice see some of those smaller fish you might have to pause it but those are coho and maybe some local trout as well but the smaller fish are typically on the outside
9:12
while the dominant fish take the inside lane there and sometimes we'll see the smaller fish of the tail out as well
9:16
So that's kind of cool to see those co-hole there. This is on the tail out here, I'm holding the camera and slowly moving across the tail
9:27
You can tell it's pretty shallow makeup of the heat there. Thanks again guys for watching and we'll see you in the next one
