Hey, it's Jesse here. Thanks so much for coming back to the channel. Today we are prawning
0:26
We are prawning and we are crabbing and we're gonna do a little bit of fishing and I say we
0:32
I've got my buddy Rob over there. He's my neighbor. So we've been planning this trip for a long time
0:38
We are complete prawning virgins. I've done it on like boat charters but I've never done it by myself
0:44
so this is pretty interesting. So I've done a ton of research, spent a lot of time looking at depths
0:50
and figuring out you know where the prawns are. So we're looking today for about 250 to 300 feet
0:55
of water for the crabs. We're gonna be like 30 to 60 feet and this area I don't know. I've seen it
1:01
some other friends have come here before and been successful so we're gonna give it a go and
1:07
we'll take you along for the ride. You guys are riding shotgun. Thanks so much for being a part of this
1:12
and we'll see you on the water. We've got We've got coho salmon for the crab traps. We've got some, one of them, actually I got some, not these, got some cat food
1:29
We've got some prawn pellets mixed in with a little bit of chunks of coho
1:35
marinated with some of that oil you saw last night. We're gonna toss that here
1:47
Fill it about two-thirds full so when it's moving around the water it's not jam-packed so there can be some good water flow
1:57
This is for the quick release scent from the trap. So we empty out the prawns once they're caught, hopefully
2:10
Snap this in here, fold it in there and put it in place which is nice
2:18
Look at that thing! Engine's running, warming up
2:37
We've launched. Now we've got to find our depths. Here we go
3:00
We've got that part connected. Connected. I added two buoys onto our, so here's our main buoy, but just because these are sometimes hard
3:21
to grab in the water, I grab the little ones, they just grab the rope and they just follow you
3:28
Okay, what does it say on the depth finder there? 294, 295. Perfect
3:36
Made in voyage, made in drops? I don't know what it's called
3:57
It's a lot of line, 400 feet of line I got, a weighted line. It's got 300 feet, so we've got an extra 100 but it's going to be a lot of line
4:07
I'm going to snap this on, this little weight so the last 10 feet of line or so
4:26
just weigh it down, just like that. So no boats
4:46
So, is it still recording? I'm recording now. And you gotta be like, off to fishing
4:54
So we can go that way, we can go this way, I was thinking about just heading down that way. Like this area you can't fish because it's a rock, that goes to Horseshoe Bay, around there goes to
5:04
Horseshoe Bay, this goes up to Eagle, this way, I don't know, I've never been down here so, check it out. Let's go
5:53
Yeah. So
7:43
going? All right, pretty basic setup here, we got our pickerel rig, and our bottom rig, and I've got
7:50
a two ounce or three ounce weight, and that's going to sit on the bottom, and above that we're
7:54
just going to use a little octopus size, I think one here, one or two, and we're going to put some
8:03
we're going to put some shrimp on it. So we're just going to bait it up, pretty simple, I'm going for some bottom fish here. This will be robs, it's like a half a chunk, let's start small
8:14
There's green lean, there's flounder, there is rockfish, which we can't keep, I don't expect to
8:21
catch here, and so this will be the first one. So we're just going to put up like that
8:28
and we're just going to drop her down. About 75 feet of water, I think, right now
8:38
according to our, our hummingbird. It's not coming off very easily. Mine's not coming off very smoothly, but that's okay
8:51
Just a little, there we go, on bottom. So we do get on bottom, make sure you feel it
9:02
there it is, and I just like to keep it just right there, just so I know I can feel the weight on the bottom like that, and then just wait for the little tap
9:10
tap, tap. Give me this rod. Got the starry flounder. Oh, yeah, starry flounder, not a bad size one, actually
9:24
We can eat them, but I don't like, I'm not a big fan of these guys as much, they're not as good to
9:28
eat, but I like the sand dabs are better. So it's a chunk of meat there, these are rougher, they're
9:35
rougher on the skin, you'll see they're rougher, the sand dabs are a lot smoother, and they don't
9:39
have the stripes, but pretty cool, huh? Very cool. I don't know, let him go
9:51
Hi, buddy. It's a good chunk of meat though, a good chunk, it's got some weight to it. Yeah
9:59
Got him? All right. Bye, buddy. Toss him back. See you. Well, we're in the spot, man, we're in the
10:07
spot, so here we go. All right, let's keep going, let's keep giving her. Come on, buddy. Oh, he let
10:15
go. What? He's there. He's telling stories, fish stories now. Fish stories, fish stories. He had
10:26
the big one on, the biggest one of the day. We'll get the replay. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, let's see that
10:31
let's see the replay of that rod right there. Oh, man. So we're just out here fishing off the bottom
10:38
just throwing a little bottom rig, as you know, and we're just having a good time
10:45
recharging in life. That's what we're doing. Oh, man, he's there. Yeah. Oh, did he let go? Oh, he let go
11:00
Ah, I did, there was one on there. He was on. Yeah, I had him. I was gonna say, I was like
11:05
maybe there's one out there the whole time. Okay, so there is one right here somewhere. He's right
11:09
here somewhere. Well, if there's one, there's lots, there's more, there's like a bunch. Okay
11:14
we've got to give this a little bit longer time. We've got to get you. Oh, yeah. You got one? Thank you. Is it recording? Yes
11:28
Oh, yeah. Nice story. Okay, you don't have to reel anymore. You don't have to reel anymore
11:32
Stop reeling, stop reeling, stop reeling. Yeah, bring it over here. Oh, yeah, that's a good size
11:37
story. Bring it over here. That is beauty. There we go. Can you give a little slack? Yeah
11:45
just a little bit of slack there and you grab the, there you go. There you go. Nice. All right
11:53
photo. Look at this guy. We told you he was a, he was a flounder captain or was a prong captain. I
12:01
can't remember, but he's, that's a nice, that's actually a pretty good one. I mean, we could keep
12:05
it if you want, but I don't know. I probably wouldn't eat it. You would? No, if it was a
12:10
sand dab, I would like a sand dab for sure, but not the starry flounder. I don't. That's all right
12:13
buddy. Hey, all right, we're back. We're back. There is a place. There is the
12:25
prawn trap that is ours. Yep. That is nice. This is why you bring your friends
12:51
All right, probably what, 50 feet? You're about a one eighth of the way there
13:01
We've got a beautiful day. I have to say, like, look at the water. I mean, you can't beat that. He's getting his workout here. I don't know. He's, he's, he's, uh
13:13
probably he needs a little bit of a workout these days. He's slacking himself. These keyboard
13:18
fingers. Yeah. Yeah. Us keyboard warriors. We, uh, yeah, we, we're not cut out for this sort of stuff
13:26
Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep
13:31
There you go. That's not bad. Hey, we got, they look, they look, uh, let's see. Let's see. Bring
13:39
it in the middle here. That's not bad. There's our, uh, this looks pretty small though. Hey
13:43
they all look preggers. These are all really small guys or am I just, uh
13:49
uh, these look tiny. I do. What's up with that? Okay. Like someone help us out here
13:57
We've got a ton of shrimp. It looks like, and I don't know if these are not prawns
14:03
These are not like the meaty prawns that we, like the big ones I was thinking of
14:09
We still eat them. Oh yeah, for sure. You can. All right. Well, let me just eat the shrimp. Yeah
14:16
I think so. It won't be the, wow. I can't believe that. I'm a little shocked that there's not one
14:24
prawn in there though. There's not one spot on. How is that impossible? I only caught five
14:32
a couple of more. You could have yourself a cocktail. All right. Look at this guy here. All right, here we go
14:40
Hmm. Delish. Is it rolling? So we got a shrimp here. This is not a prawn
14:49
So I'm going to, I'm going to rip off the head like so. This is really small
14:59
This is like, Oh yeah. It's mild
15:18
Texture's great. I'll eat that all the time. It's wasabi and soy sauce
15:23
It'd be good for sure. They're small, but Oh yeah. Actually, it's better than I thought it was going to be
15:28
Has a little bit of saltiness from the, from the ocean. That looks like a good one. There you go. That's the worm I was talking about. Check it out
15:38
Where? It's right here. Oh yeah. On top there. Oh yeah, you're right. Salmon have those too
15:48
Just twist in bulk. You get the sea flavor right up front, eh? That salty up front and then
16:09
That's good. Yeah. They're good. They're just so small. We need the bigger ones
16:16
Yeah. So this one has roe, I guess that's what the blue is. So we have to let those guys go
16:21
Let's get it. See those ones have blue, that's roe. We have to let those go
16:27
Can't have the blue roe. Those are babies. Bye babies. Bye babies
16:34
All right. On to the crab traps. Feeling a little heavy? There's some crab in there. Oh yeah? Yeah. Oh. Those are big too
16:51
Those are giants. Wow. Those are, those are male? They're keepers. Okay. I'm pulling the traps from now on. Dude, those are big. Yes. Are these females or males
17:04
Let's find out right now. Okay. Male. That one's a keeper. Both males. Ah, yeah
17:12
Salvaged. Giant. There you go. And they feasted on our salmon as well
17:20
Okay. We're back. So prawns, it was not on. What the heck did we do wrong? Drop a comment down
17:29
below and tell me why there was no prawns in that trap. Clearly this was not our fault
17:38
What happened here? And tell me why there was no prawns in that trap. Clearly this was not our fault
17:48
What happened here? I don't know. But we got two crabs and actually the shallower one
17:54
surprisingly was the better one. So I didn't think that was going to be the case, but
17:59
we got two starry flounders and yeah, a bunch of shrimp. So we'll eat the shrimp for sure
18:05
But I'm definitely not giving up on these prawns. I'm coming back for them. I'll definitely be
18:11
coming back. Maybe not to this location, but I'll be back and see if we can get them next time. So
18:18
but yeah, if you guys know prawning and you know what we did wrong, let me know. I'd love to know
18:23
that. Drop me down a comment below and I'll do another video and we'll get them next time
18:29
All right, we're back at home unloaded. It's always a lot of work. So we're going to eat
18:34
these shrimp. So this is not a prawn video anymore. This is a shrimp video. So I'm just
18:38
going to quickly take off the heads, de-vein these guys and we're going to get those guys
18:43
on as well as the crab. So I'm just going to grab the head and I'm going to take it off like that
18:48
Boom. Throw that back in. And I don't know if there's a vein in here. Yeah, there's a little
18:56
vein. You can see that. Take that out. Thank you, buddy. There you go
19:26
Oh, look at this. The crab is served. Look at that. Wow. Nice presentation. Captain Rob here
19:48
So the day wasn't a complete bust. I definitely learned some things. It was so fun to take the
19:53
portaboat along West Van and just to cruise along there. I've never gone that far just to see what
19:58
the six horsepower motor can do. And it was great to get some crab and some shrimp, obviously. And
20:07
we didn't get the prawns. That's okay. These little guys are, they're tasty. They're not huge
20:12
but they're tasty little morsels. And let's give a couple of try here. So the shell's still on
20:20
So it's not the easiest thing to get these guys out of here. So I'm going to use this fork just
20:24
to peel it off. And bear with me here. There we go. I'll get a tiny little bite. I should put it
20:35
give me a little. Oh, that's, it's just butter. That's all I put on it
20:43
It's delicious. The texture is perfect. It's great. These little things are just
20:51
I could eat these all day. Now that's good. If they were just a little bit bigger. Let's try this
21:00
I'm fooling around here. See what we got. Oh, look at this crab, crab claw. Chunk of that. That looks good
21:19
Oh yeah. Nice one Rob. Captain Rob burn it up as always on the kitchen. Now let's try his garlic
21:28
butter sauce. Sauce. Let's just do a little dab. Oh man. Oh, that's a good sauce. I love that
21:40
That is, that is it. Garlic butter. Ooh, that is good. Okay. I'm doing crab like that from now on
21:50
That's good. I like that butter. That's good. All right guys. Thanks so much for hanging out
21:59
with me and spending some time with Rob and I. If you like this video, give me a thumbs up. If
22:05
you don't like it, tell me so in the comments and um, if you like these sort of piranhas videos
22:09
these type of fishing videos, curious to see. I'm always trying to try new things and so and learn
22:15
and get more on the water and it's tough with two kids. I'll tell you that with six and four
22:20
but um, we're going to keep going at her. So, um, yeah, again, thank you so much for watching
22:26
I appreciate you and we'll see you in the next video
