Things are about to change around here
0:30
Alright, good morning people. It's Jesse here. It is... what time is it
0:40
It's 5.15 in the morning. So sunrise is 5.30 and this is the very first time I'm getting my kayak on the ocean
0:50
So it's very fun because I get to try a bunch of new things. But today is just about a trial
0:55
So very much a trial. I did bring a rod as well but I really just want to get a feel for the kayak this morning
1:01
So I don't even know if you can see me right now. You can see me but I might have to do a better intro out of the water here
1:07
But let's get at it. Let's go in
1:38
The water actually feels not bad
1:53
So the drive is going to go in. Once I get into a safe depth
2:03
Alright, first time using this thing. Hope I'm doing this right. It's got to be like a... get in there
2:23
Right about there. Like that. Beautiful
2:33
Already this is really really cool. I gotta get a photo of this
2:44
This is gorgeous. There's a Charlene boat ramp right there. Well here, today's video is just about getting out and exploring
2:55
So not a whole lot of fishing. I did bring a rod but I don't really plan on doing much
2:59
I just want to see kind of the speed and distance I can cover. I want to use my..
3:03
I have an avionics app on my phone. I just want to see how that works a little bit
3:07
But yeah, so it's just really a testing thing. So thanks for watching and there's going to be a lot more of this to come
3:15
Alright, so we're headed towards this little point here. It is... we're in about 100 feet of water here. 99
3:23
And we're going to go... see there? It's up to 31. I don't know if you can see that
3:28
But that's a little mountain underwater. So we're going to head there and fish all along the..
3:34
all the incline there. I'm just going to drop a buzz bomb. See if we can find anything there
3:39
So it's not too far offshore either. So holy cow! First fish
3:43
It's not very big. It's just a little guy. But my gosh! We got a fish Jess
3:47
This is unbelievable! I think it's just a little rockfish. Oh, what do we got here? Look what we got
3:51
A little rockfish. Wow! Look at this! Wow! It's a rockfish! It's a rockfish
3:57
It's a rockfish! It's a rockfish! It's a rockfish! It's a rockfish
4:01
It's a rockfish! It's a rockfish! Wow! I didn't expect to catch anything
4:05
I was just fiddling around. Ah, cool! Copper or uh... vermilion? No, not vermilion
4:13
Vermilion are the red ones. These guys will spike ya. We're not deep water here so I don't need a descender
4:21
This is only 30 feet of water. So I fully expect him to go back down
4:28
There he goes. There he goes. There he goes back down. Okay, let's try this again
4:46
This could be a ling. This could be a ling. It's either a good rockfish or a good ling
4:57
What do we got here? It's a good little rockfish. That's a good size rockfish
5:05
Holy cow, it's huge! No, it is a little ling. It is a little ling. Oh, it is a little ling. Cool. Cool
5:11
Look at this guy. Not legal but... Actually, I should probably keep him in the water
5:18
Oh my gosh, this is amazing. How am I catching these guys
5:23
Oh, he's about 20 inches maybe? I don't know, it's hard to say
5:29
He's got some... Beautiful though. Beautiful. There he goes
5:43
There he goes. Down, down, down he goes. Where he goes, only he knows
5:51
Okay, so we found a... He hit it right away. That was pretty cool
5:56
We got a rockfish and a ling cod right away. Let's see if we can find a bigger one
6:01
That was cool. Good little fight. This rod is nice for this
6:05
If you're getting for bigger guys, this rod handles it no problem
6:09
You can see how thick it is. Look how thick this backbone is
6:13
It's not too long because you don't want to be... I don't like too long of a rod unless I'm trolling or using it for salmon
6:19
Because you're bottom fishing, you don't need that long rod. So this 7.5 is perfect
6:24
BC Ferries. And nope, heading off to Horseshoe Bay. That's beautiful. Sun rising
6:34
Dropping a line. Right off the shore. This is great. Pretty shallow water now I think
6:44
Oh, there we go. And there's a fish. Right as we're talking
6:50
This is not very big. Probably a rockfish. Yep, rockfish. I was getting distracted getting a little..
7:00
We're in super shallow water. We're only in 30 feet of water right now
7:04
So it's pretty... Pretty easy fishing right here. I would say. That's cool
7:14
I mean, I've caught these guys before from the boat. But man, it's really special when you're catching them from the kayak
7:22
Alright. Let's get those pliers out. No problem. There he goes
7:35
That's a line. Oh my goodness, it's a strong rockfish. Huge rockfish
7:44
No, it's a greenling. Oh, it's a good kelp greenling. Oh, that's a good one
7:50
Oh, he's eating this guy. Oh yeah, he's eating... I'm eating this guy for sure
7:56
That's a good sized kelp greenling. Hokey dine-a. Look at that. Well, sorry bud, but you're getting bonked
8:10
Alright, let's see what we got here. Yeah, I kind of do want to keep this one actually
8:17
I'm going to eat this one. I don't even know what to say
8:21
Honestly, I feel like Game Changer is an understatement. I feel so blessed
8:28
And this is just This might be one of the most exciting fishing
8:33
changes that I've ever done. This is so beautiful. This reminds me of when I was a kid and I would
8:40
always get up early when we were on holidays on our lake holidays in Manitoba
8:44
I'd get in the paddle boat and I'd go out in the middle and go fishing for smallmouth bass
8:48
for pike and walleye and I'd get up early and do that
8:52
and this just takes me right back obviously on an ocean completely different
8:56
but it's just a really special moment. I'm amazed. I wish I would have started doing this earlier
9:04
This is an incredible, incredible experience. I'm just starting so yeah, again, I just feel very blessed
9:10
Thank you, Lord. Look at that. Gorgeous weather. Zero wind. Alright
9:22
Going into the Charlene Ramp here. We're back at the boat launch here
9:28
Charlene Ramp. And so I decided to keep one green lean. You can keep three of them
9:36
in my current area here. I kayak on the rollers here on the cart
9:42
I'm just going to cart it up the hill here. Looks pretty good
9:52
Now I'm just going to get in my car. Okay, now I'm just going to show you
9:56
how I'm going to put this kayak back up on here all by myself
10:00
The kayak itself weighs about 85 pounds. The drive is about 20
10:06
So it's just over 100 pounds. So it's heavy enough. It's easy with two guys
10:12
But with one guy, you just got to be a little more strategic
10:16
in how you move it up there. I'm talking like I'm an expert
10:40
So if you can get it to a place where it's just kind of leaning on like that
10:44
that you can rest on it, it's not so bad. I can use this
10:52
A blanket helps. There we go
11:10
Not too bad one person, but the blanket really helps. It helps kind of add a little bit of slide
11:18
and protection for the car and for the kayak as well. I think that's a smart thing
11:24
Now I just got to strap it down. Just about to show you what I was doing
11:32
Basically I tied a cam strap through there. It's going through and then I can just shut the door
11:42
and it goes over. Yeah, so it just attaches there. It's just an emergency thing from sliding
11:50
back and forth. I don't know how well that would hold. Got one ratchet strap there
11:56
Usually I would do two ratchet straps actually. But anyway, I got a cam one there
12:00
I don't know. I've been told that you're not supposed to use ratchet straps on kayaks. I don't know if that's true
12:04
But it kind of warps them so you can really cinch down. But I didn't really cinch down very heavy
12:08
on that one. And then I got, of course, the one in the middle
12:12
You can see how it lays nice and flat. Again, the purpose of
12:20
this video was just to take you out for its maiden voyage
12:24
I wasn't showing all the ins and outs, all my gear and breaking down everything
12:28
I was just lucky to catch those fish which was pretty cool
12:32
I'm going to do some more videos of I'll show you all the accessories and everything about the boat
12:39
and what I'm learning. One thing I will say is that I don't think you should be buying a ton of accessories
12:43
until you get your boat on the water. Even my first time out there, there's
12:47
things I'm starting to think about and maybe change my initial game plan. It's great to do your research
12:51
and sure, there's lots of accessories to buy, but I would say hold off
12:55
on buying too much. Get out there a couple times. See what
12:59
you like and get a sense for the boat before you go a little crazy
13:03
Something to think about. I'll be showing you those in a different video. I'll talk more about my gear
13:07
what I'm fishing with and how I'm even thinking about targeting some of these fish
13:13
This is super fun. Thank you so much for watching this video
13:17
and I'm excited for a lot more content like this. If you
13:21
really like this, please give me a thumbs up subscribe. That helps me so much
13:25
it helps the YouTube algorithm. I'm excited to put some more content up here
13:29
Thanks guys. Appreciate you and we'll see you in the next one. Whapam
